Mount Holly To Start Recycling Roll-Out

    Announcements - December 29th, 2009

The City of Mount Holly will launch the city’s recycling program after the first of the year.

Residents will receive recycling bins the week of Jan. 4 and the first pick-up will be Tuesday, Jan. 19. The Jan. 19 pick-up on will be for those on the regular Tuesday schedule, as well as homes that normally have garbage disposal on Monday due to the no pick-up scheduled on Jan. 18 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. The rest of the week’s schedule will be unchanged.

Recycling will be picked up every other week on the same dates as regular garbage pick-up. Residents do not need to separate recycling – all items can be placed into the bin. Among the items that can be recycled are: plastic (including beverage bottles, milk jugs, laundry and cleaning bottles), metal, glass (clear and colored), cardboard and paper (including newspapers).

Before placing an item in recycling, residents are asked to make sure to rinse out residual food or cleaning products. In addition, pizza boxes are not recyclable.  Garbage should not be placed in recycling bins and will not be picked up.

If you have any questions about what can be recycled call 704-951-3033 or check out Earth911.com online.

    Mount Holly Recycle Program

    Announcements - October 2nd, 2009

After much planning, the City of Mount Holly will implement a recycling program, as a result, the City has made several changes to its waste pick-up program.

For many years, Mount Holly has picked up bulky items and white goods curbside.  While that service will continue, there will be a fee attached to those pick-ups as of Sept 1, 2009.  The fees are:

  • Bulky items will cost $10 to $20 per item to dispose – the cost will depend on the size and weight of the item.  Bulky items include sofas, chairs, tables, dressers and other household furniture.
  • Disposal of all size mattresses will be $20 each; box springs will be $5 each
  • Tires, without the rims, will be picked up at a fee of $5 each.
  • The city will charge for pickup of multiple garbage cans – a fee of $10 per can per month starting January 2010.
  • Fees will also be implemented on white good disposal. White goods are appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers. The transportation fee will be $25 per item.
  • All of these fees will be added to the following months residential utility bills.
Bulk items will be picked up the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month on your regular collection day.
The current schedule of pickup for white goods and tires on the second Friday of each month remains in place.

The City of Mount Holly wants to encourage residents to consider donating old furniture and appliances instead of throwing them away.  Many non-profit organizations will come to a residence to pick up such items.  Also, if you are replacing an existing appliance, many retailers will remove the old appliance at no charge.

To Schedule pick up of Bulk Items or White Goods, 704-951-3033.
